Stat of the Day Empty Stat of the Day

Post  Steve M Mon May 03, 2010 8:46 am

Of all the players that have represented the Old Doms down the years Mark Hunt has the smallest hands Wink

I will be be posting stats on here throughout the season - most will probably be of no interest to anybody but myself but it will keep me out of trouble. If anyone has anything they wish me to check out stats wise let me know.

Todays effort then - John Hodgson, Rob Rolls and Kath Adie have between them batted for the Doms 54 times without getting a duck - who will be first! Sad

The Old Doms bowlers are bowling well without looking like ripping through a side. Todays stat perhaps demonstrates this:-

It is now eleven consecutive games that an opposition batsman has scored 50 or more runs. In that time there have been 13 50's and 1 100. No

In the last game the guy who got 50 should have been caught behind before he got his 50! Against Bromsgrove XI (the first match of the season) the guy who got 50 was dropped 3 times before we got him out. Where as you are right that the bowlers need to do a bit more, there has to be sufficient help in the field also!

Can't argue with any of the points you make. However this is "stat of the day" and as the Whitehill batsman will be retiring at 25ish it's not one i will be able to use come Friday morning! Smile I do think however that if we had a genuine strike bowler who, on occasion, ripped out the top order or got the odd five wicket haul it would complete what is already a decent bowling attack!

Stat of the Day Empty we never really have..

Post  Wear the Helmet Tue May 04, 2010 3:52 pm

...had a guinuine strike bowler (although there are some that thought they were). Mark has a point re dropped catches and many of which should be taken. If 50% of those dropped were taken life and stats would be very different. You dont see the team we play drop as many as we do. Catches win matchs and improves bowling stats...

Wasn't attempting to be controversial gents. I am just intending to produce a "stat" each day to entertain (or in your case, it would seem, piss off the troops). I have already agreed with the points Mark made and we all know that we are traditionally an ordinary fielding side but i'll play along anyway! What is there in my "stat" that you can argue with? When was the last time we took a side apart Question Question Question

Stat of the Day Empty Short term memory loss...

Post  Wear the Helmet Wed May 05, 2010 12:37 am

Look you are the Stats man, why ask us mere mortals. In case you cant remember the last players to take a team apart were..

1996 - Last 16-6 and 19-6
2001 - Ed Day 2-7
and more recently...
2007 - Tank 17-5
2008 - Hodgy 23-6

This goes to prove that "us" bowlers regulary take teams apart... elephant

We'll go with Lasty for todays hopefully less controversial stat of the day.

The Old Doms bowlers have taken 5 wickets or more in a match on 17 occasions - Alan Last leading the way by managing to do so on three occasions. Shocked

Only two Doms have topped the bowling averages for a season more than once. Alan Last on two occasions but the winner is Stuart Rich with three Very Happy

No adjustments made Lasty - just the cold hard facts!... but as you posed the question here's the same stat adjusted with the 10 wkt rule:-

Six Doms have topped the seasons bowling averages on more than one occasion. Tony Piper, Alan Rowan, Bob Dyke, Charlie Lyons and Alan Last have all managed the acheivement twice but the clear winner with three is Steve Morris!!! - You were right Lasty!! that is better lol! lol! lol!

Having inspired the bowlers to pull their fingers out and finally 'skittle' a team i thought i would try again with another cold hard bowling stat:-

The last Old Dom to take five wickets in a match was wicketkeeper John Hodgson on 15/6/08 some 61 games ago. In that time the Doms batsman have scored 5 centuries! Very Happy

(hook baited - will just sit back with a cold beer and wait for a passing bowler to bite!) Laughing
